By Rasheed Abou-Alsamh

The father of my EAB classmates Ellen and Monique Moren, Oscar Mendes Moren, passed away on Sept. 7, 2018, in Brasilia. He was 89-years-old and a pediatrician. A native of Rio de Janeiro, he did his residency at the Long Island Jewish Hospital in New York, after completing his medical degree in Rio. In New York he met his future wife Elinor Watson Moren. They had been married for 55 years at the time of his passing.

Oscar was a gentle soul, always smiling and ready to tell his friends a joke. He garnered a large group of doctors who trained under him when he was the head of the pediatric department at the Hospital de Base in Brasilia.

After he retired he began painting and held several well-attended exhibitions here in Brasilia.

His wake will be held on Sept. 09, 2018, at the Campo de Boa Esperança in Brasilia from 11am to 6pm.

May his soul rest in peace!
