Google Reveals: Philippines No. 1 for 'Gay Sex' Search!

I READ a hilarious and informative article yesterday in the International Herald Tribune about how Google is keeping track of what people in different countries are searching for on the Internet.

The country that searches the most for ‘gay sex’ is surprise, surprise, the Philippines! In second place for some same-sex action is Saudi Arabia, which isn’t surprising at all if you’ve ever lived here.

I tried searching for ‘gay sex’ on Google here and found that the “SafeSearch” option is constantly on, which means no X-rated stuff comes through. What you get instead is a listing for “The New Joy of Gay Sex” book on Amazon.com, followed by a CNN story on the US Supreme Court striking down the Texas sodomy law, and then an entry on a study that claims gay sex is on the increase in the UK from the Gay.com site. Naturally that site is blocked by the King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology in Riyadh, the Internet watchdog for the whole kingdom.

I went to the Google Trends page to try and see for myself what people are searching for, but most times I got an error page. You have to put your search terms in quotation marks: i.e. put in ‘gay sex’ and not gay sex.

According to the IHT article, Arab seldom look up democracy on the web, while Indians and Pakistanis lead the list of countries where people look the most often for ‘sex’ and ‘dowry’.
